Hate and Ignorance will not Prevail

Pretty soon the religious right might legalize rape especially if the child would be white. And have you seen the “Let’s Put the White Back in the White House” t-shirts and bumper stickers? How about some of the bumper stickers below? Does anyone really want to be voting on the same side as the bigots, racists, fascists, and KKK in the country? Why does our election process have to degenerate to such racist and hateful comments?

As we approach Nov. 6 I think it’s time to reflect, and look at some of our leaders and pundits on the air waves today.

First, consider Rush Limbaugh’s vile attack on Sandra Fluke, a student at Georgetown University and former head of Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice. Then Todd Akin trying to “legalize rape” and make a distinction based on how violent a rape could be–“forcible rape”. He even proposed legislation, co-sponsored by Paul Ryan, the Republican VP candidate, with regard to forcible rape. Could someone please tell me how rape is not forcible and exactly what is a legal rape?

There are plenty more atrocities in the past, but let’s just focus on a couple of the most recent insanities–by Ann Coulter (political pundit) and Richard Murdock (Tea Party candidate for Senate in Indiana).

Coulter said she supported Mitt Romney’s strategy to not attack President Barack Obama. Or, as Coulter put it on Twitter, “I highly approve of Romney’s decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.” Please consider the following response from someone far more intelligent than Miss Coulter: Open Letter to Ann Coulter.

And take a look at this from Richard Mourdock:

Fallout Continues from Richard Mourdock’s “Gift from God” Rape Comment.

Pretty soon the religious right may legalize rape.

Obama haters rampage
Is this America the Beautiful?

If you’ve reached this point in the article please comment on how you feel about the above hateful and sometimes racist comments. Is this what we want in America? Is this what our election process has come to? This is certainly not what I want to see. Yes, it is definitely time to stop and reflect.

  1. How about the latest from John Sununu, the co-chair of the Republican Party. Mr. Sununu stated in a public interview that Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State under George W. Bush, only endorsed Obama because of his race. Isn’t this race baiting? The pundits and leaders on the right can not be that stupid! They are doing this on purpose to get the white vote out. Are caucasians that stupid to only vote for Romney to get an Afro-American out of the White House? I do know one thing, Colin Powell is a man of integrity, courage, intelligence, and one of the most Patriotic citizens in the country. For Mr. Sununu to insult him like this is a travesty. If Colin Powell, a life long Republican, is worried about the Romney-Ryan ticket I think we should be worried too.

  2. These kind of offensive acts and Romney’s refusal to criticize or call for a stop to this repulsive behavior makes him absolutely unqualified to be President and trumps an thing anyone can possibly claim about his economic expetise…. you cannot be a President of all the people if you tacitly endorse acts that separate us.

I remember the 60’s where the South was trying to hang on to segregation, I remember people fighting equality for woman… i remember people, politicians and religious leaders trying to stymie the inevitable march toward a more inclusive world… what I do not remember is any movement to reverse this course of progress.. How depressing!
