Are we a country whose democracy is active, or are we at a point where our democracy is approaching a state of inaction?

Our Dreams of Freedom

To be free? Free from what?

You are not free from eating. We all have to.

But we would like to choose what we eat

We are not free from breathing.

But we would like to enjoy it. To choose the air we breathe.

We are not free from our bodies but we would like make the best out of it.

Are we free from love?

Most creatures have to love.

But we would like to make a choice. Of who and how to love.

Are we free from desires?

I don’t think so. Even if we desire freedom it is still a desire.

Even if we understand what freedom means.

Is nature itself free?

It is not. All living things strive to survive. Why?

Why are we all trying to survive?

Are we free to choose? To not survive?

Yes we are.

But if we choose freedom to make a choice to not live.

We die.

Are we free after we die? We will not know.

Is there freedom without us knowing, appreciating it?

So we have freedom to make choices in matters that we do have choices.

But is it complete freedom?

Or are we trying to make the best choices in life because we don’t have freedom not to make choices?

So what is life but a set of choices we have to make, even if it’s a choice to be free?

It is all in our mind.

You and only you can decide to be or not to be.

You are free if you feel free.

But we all have to make our choices.

Are you free?

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. Viktor E. Frankl

“Right to Die” Movement is Energized by Sarah Palin

The Right to be Stupid

The "right to die" movement is energized by Sarah Palin's brilliant performance during the CPAC convention.

"In America we have rights to die in any way we want,” she declared.  “We are fighting for Freedom and it is up to us whether we want to kill ourselves with guns or huge sugary drinks.  And no socialist, Muslim, Marxist President will deny us real Americans our rights to be stupid.  This is America, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama!  And the rest of the world (I have no clue what it means) can observe and envy our brilliant politicians like my role model, Donald Trump, and yours truly, Sarah!"  Let Freedom ring!

Take this, Obama!

"Freedom stands for something greater than just the right to act however I choose.   It also stands for securing to everyone an equal opportunity for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Mike Treder - Ethical Technology

To most reasonable people, freedom means more than just "free to do whatever I want".  Taken literally, that approach would produce anarchy - every man, woman and child for himself or herself.  Fortunately, none of us has to live that way (unless you’re reading this in Somalia or a similar disaster area).

Freedom is a realized necessity.

We The People

Are we free?

Certainly freedom does mean the right to do as one pleases - to think, believe, speak, worship (or not worship), move about, gather and generally act as you choose - but only until your choices start to infringe on another person’s freedom.  This still leaves a great deal of latitude.  There is a long list of things that one can say, and say freely; however, it excludes shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theater.

One way to think of this is the difference between “freedom of" (or “freedom to”) and “freedom from”- a point eloquently made by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his State of the Union Address delivered on January 6, 1941:

We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.

The first is freedom of speech and expression - everywhere in the world.

The second is the freedom of every person to worship God in his own way - everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want, which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants - everywhere in the world.

The fourth is freedom from fear, which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor - anywhere in the world.

That is no vision of a distant millennium.  It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation.

So what IS Freedom?

“Our troops defending our freedom.”

My fellow Americans, I am tired of slogans.  I am asking you what the word “freedom” means?

Do you feel free when you worry about losing your health insurance because you lost your job?  Do you feel free when you cannot pay for your kids' education?

Do you feel free when you cannot afford your mortgage and are about to lose your home?

Do you feel free when your world is collapsing around you and you feel helpless, unable to provide for your family.

“Defending our freedom!”  Great slogan.

Do you feel free knowing that over 4,000 soldiers have died defending our “freedom” and thousands have come back from war crippled physically and mentally?

Do you feel free knowing that our soldiers where sent to "faraway" land by cowards and war criminals like Dick Cheney? Did this war give you freedom?

Is that freedom

Hate is not Freedom

What is freedom?

Is it happiness, being healthy, doing what you love to do, a healthy and happy family?

Does hatred give us freedom?

There are haters of all sorts - tea-baggers, racists, bigots of all kinds.  Are they free?  Or are they prisoners of their hate?  The narrow cage that prevents haters from a real understanding and appreciation of life.

Is freedom money, wealth?  Is greed, an accumulation of wealth, a total disregard for others – is this freedom?

Is that freedom?

Rich living in poor countries.

I've been to some poor countries; I've visited areas where rich people live...huge walls with barbed wire and steel gates, and guards.  Is that freedom?  Are these people free from behind the walls?

Is that what we want for our country, so rich people will hide behind the walls while the rest of us live in anxiety, unsure about the next day?  Is that our idea of a free country?

So what is freedom, my fellow Americans?

Do we have free and democratic elections?

We, the People, are free to elect our representatives who will work for us.  They will have our best interests in mind.  Representatives that represent us – the People.

But, you know, that is not true.

Will sell to the highest bidder.

Money elects representatives to work for money. “Corporations are people, my friends.” That is what Mitt Romney thinks.  What do you think is the sole purpose of a corporation?

The sole purpose of a corporation is to make money and more money. 0.11% of Americans invest 66.2% of total campaign contributions; and by Americans I also mean corporations.  They are people, remember?

So, do you think there are free and fair elections in America?  Or is it just a marketplace where Money chooses people who are for sale to represent the Money.

So, here is a slogan for you, my fellow Americans:  Money may not buy freedom, but it sure buys Congress.

So please don't listen to demagogues talking about preserving our the next elections get rid of the demagogues!
